Donor & Supporter Update – June 2025

As we reach the halfway point of 2025, we want to take a moment to reflect on the journey so far and thank you for walking it with us. Your support, encouragement, and belief in our mission continue to create space for healing, hope, and new beginnings for people rebuilding their lives in Australia.

This year has already been full of powerful stories of connection, empowerment, and belonging. And it’s all thanks to people like you.

In February, we were thrilled to welcome two new team members to our growing community: Waymaker Jiana, originally from Syria, and Lynette from Rhodesia (Zimbabwe). Both bring personal experience and a deep commitment to their work. Their presence has already had a meaningful impact on those we serve. It is a reminder that leadership comes in many forms and that lived experience is one of the most valuable kinds.

Our programs have also continued to grow. This term, we launched the Cook 2 Connect program with the help of our new volunteer Program Coordinator, Rosie. Through shared meals and stories, participants are learning recipes, building friendships and creating a true sense of community.

Another major highlight has been the EmpowerHER program, which recently concluded with a heartfelt graduation celebration on 24 May. Over the past four months, nine remarkable women met monthly for full-day workshops focused on leadership, confidence, and community project development. At graduation, each woman pitched her project with courage and clarity. It was a proud moment for us all, and a testament to the transformation that’s possible when women are equipped and supported.

Just last week, we also hosted our first information session of the year—a Women’s Health Info Event that opened the 2025 series. These sessions provide culturally safe, practical knowledge on topics that impact our community’s daily lives, and they’re an important part of our commitment to wellbeing and empowerment.

Back in April, our Welcome Picnic was a joyful celebration of new connections and partnerships. We were honoured to be joined by Lions Toowoomba West and Toowoomba Automotive, who helped make the day even more special. This event was filled with laughter, games, and shared meals, reminding us once again that belonging is built through community.

Our Good Neighbour Initiative has also been relaunched with new energy and a refreshed vision, guided by our volunteer Program Coordinator, Bhawana. Her dedication to building stronger neighbourhoods is already having a positive ripple effect across our networks.

We’re also preparing to launch Road Safety Education Courses, designed to equip participants with the essential knowledge and confidence they need to navigate our roads safely. This is just one more way we’re working to support practical, long-term settlement outcomes.

In March, we were proud to have David Nduwimana speak at the Harmony Day event at Miami State High School. His story of resilience and belonging deeply resonated with students and staff. His presence there helped amplify the message we carry every day, that no one should have to walk their journey alone.

Looking ahead, we’re preparing for our next major fundraising initiative. Move 2 Belong will take place during Welcoming Week from 15 to 21 September. This community-wide movement campaign will raise awareness and vital funds to support our ongoing work. Whether you participate by walking, running, dancing, or donating, we hope you’ll be part of it.

Through every new initiative, event, and story, your support has made it possible to say "yes" when someone needs help, "yes" when someone asks for guidance, and "yes" to creating safe, inclusive spaces where people truly feel they belong.

There is so much more ahead in the second half of the year. Thank you for your generosity, your trust, and your belief in what we’re building together.

If you’d like to continue walking alongside us, we invite you to make a donation to support the next chapter of our work. Every gift, no matter the size, helps us provide practical support, build meaningful relationships, and remind every person who walks through our doors that they are seen, valued, and truly belong.
