HARMONY WEEK MARCH 18—24, 2024

SHINE BRIGHT TOGETHER

“Show Your Orange, Share Your Story”

This Harmony Week, let’s Brighten Up our community together with ORANGE in three simple ways.

1. Shine It!

Light a Life Changing Candle hand-poured by refugee Waymakers. Your purchase of a *Kenshi Candle will empower refugees as you shine a light on the strength of our togetherness, illuminating the path toward a future where everyone belongs.

2. Wear It!

Wear orange from head to toe or just a pop of colour. Dress in orange your way — Be imaginative, be bold, or be subtle and show the world that in diversity there's strength, and in unity, there's belonging.

3. Share It!

Snap and share your outrageous orange outfit or candle aflame! Show the world how brightness and belonging go hand-in-hand, one fun post at a time. Just tag @youbelongorg on Instagram with a pic of you and your friends dressed in orange or posing with a Life Changing Candle, and you’ll be in the running to win big with plenty of fun prizes up for grabs! Don’t forget to use the hashtags #ShowYourOrange #ShineBrightTogether.

*Kenshi Candles are hand poured in Melbourne by refugee Waymakers from Myanmar. The superior quality candles are made from high-grade natural soy wax, essential oils and cotton wicks. They have a 60 hour burn time, are attractively presented and come in a wide range of seasonal fragrances.

The best part is that $10 from every candle purchase will go directly towards the work of You Belong!

*Online orders are only available within Australia at this time.

Create a Safe, Welcoming & Empowering community in Toowoomba!

The first role of a mentor is to model and promote safe driving. You Belong provides a free Road Safety Program for all participants to ensure that Waymakers are prepared for the road. In addition to passing their Learner’s Test, Waymakers are required to complete a Prep L Course and take several driving lessons with a Professional Driving Instructor. Our commitment to all of our mentors is when the time comes to venture onto the road with your Waymaker, you will feel, safe, confident and prepared, whether you are behind the wheel or in the passenger seat.

Are you interested in supporting a Waymaker to learn how to drive?

Become a Driver Mentor!

Once settled in Toowoomba, one of many barriers faced by Waymakers is gaining the confidence and opportunity to practise driving on the road.

You Belong’s Learner Driver Mentor Program provides an opportunity for Waymakers to complete their required 100 hours of road driving experience that many are unable to achieved due to many barriers, including language, o learn to drive.

Volunteer mentors are an integral and highly valued part of the Learner Driver Mentor Program. Mentors are supported every step of the way: from induction into the role, briefings on key parts of the role, and ongoing training and support once they get started as a volunteer.

The role of a mentor is first and foremost supporting and role-modelling safe driving and helping Waymakers practice their driving skills already learnt from previous lessons with a professional Driving Instructor.

Meet Rahila

Rahila is lots of things, but most importantly she's part of the human family and has intrinsic value for just being alive. You Belong wants everyone to see that refugees are more than the hard things they've survived. They have so much to offer the world when given opportunity to belong in it. We believe that with tender care and empowering support, a person who was once uprooted and displaced from everything they knew, can be re-established to grow and thrive again.
