You Belong is currently seeking volunteer board members across several key governance and advisory roles. Full position descriptions are available below.
Board Treasurer
Provide strategic financial oversight and stewardship that ensures You Belong remains healthy, compliant, and future-focused as we further establish our work in Toowoomba and beyond.

Ideal Candidate Profile
CPA or equivalent professional accounting qualification
Experience in not-for-profit finance, ACNC compliance, and Australian charity regulations
Strong grounding in budgeting, forecasting, cashflow, and risk management
Comfortable supporting a small team with practical financial systems and oversight
High energy, strong sense of purpose, and a genuine passion for refugee empowerment
Able to commit monthly time to support the Managing Director and Board
Ideally based in Toowoomba or well-connected to the region
Key Responsibilities
Lead financial oversight and ensure good stewardship of resources
Chair the Finance & Risk subcommittee
Support development of annual budgets and long-term financial plans
Oversee audit, reporting, and ACNC/ASIC compliance
Provide clear financial information to the Board
Strengthen financial policies and internal controls
Champion sustainable funding models and financial resilience

Board Secretary
Ensure smooth governance operations, accurate record-keeping, and timely reporting to ACNC, ASIC, and internal stakeholders. This may be a board or non-board role.

Ideal Profile
Experience as a company secretary or governance officer
Familiarity with ACNC and ASIC reporting
Clear communicator and well organised
Comfortable preparing agendas, minutes, and governance documents
Collaborative and able to work closely with the Chair and Board
Supportive of You Belong’s mission
Key Responsibilities
Prepare agendas, board papers, and minutes
Manage ACNC and ASIC filings
Oversee board induction and documentation
Ensure compliance with constitution and governance policies
Maintain organisational registers
Support general governance processes

Board Member — Community & Philanthropy (Toowoomba Focus)
Help You Belong deepen its roots in Toowoomba and strengthen philanthropic, corporate, and community partnerships that support our mission.

Ideal Profile
Well-networked in Toowoomba across business, community development, education, faith, or local government
Passionate about inclusion, diversity, and refugee support
Natural relationship-builder with an ability to open doors and champion the mission
Experience with fundraising, corporate partnerships, or community engagement is a bonus
Enjoys storytelling, advocacy, and community connection
Energised by helping small organisations grow
Key Responsibilities
Strengthen You Belong’s presence and partnerships in Toowoomba
Support fundraising events, campaigns, and donor engagement
Help build relationships with local government, schools, businesses, and philanthropists
Represent You Belong at community events
Contribute to governance, strategic thinking, and board discussions

Board Member — Legal & Governance
Provide legal, governance, and risk expertise to strengthen You Belong’s foundations and ensure our growth is healthy, compliant, and well supported.

Ideal Profile
Experience in not-for-profit or charity law OR background in employment law, community law, or governance risk
Comfortable advising on constitutions, policies, contracts, compliance, and risk frameworks
Familiar with HR law, child-safe frameworks, and volunteer legislation (ideal but not essential)
Collaborative, clear communicator, and generous with their expertise
Passion for refugee rights, social justice, and community-led empowerment
Key Responsibilities
Provide legal and governance guidance to the Board
Support development and review of policies, contracts, and risk mitigation strategies
Strengthen compliance with ACNC, ASIC, and NFP standards
Assist with HR-related governance matters
Support subcommittees where relevant (People & Culture, Risk, Governance)

Ambassadors
As an Ambassador for You Belong, you'll champion our mission in your school, workplace, church, club, or community, engaging hearts and minds to support Waymakers. Rally volunteers to participate in fundraising and awareness campaigns; speak or host and events or workshop. Our Volunteer Program Coordinators play a pivotal role in bringing our multicultural programs, events, and activities to life, assisting with planning, coordination, and p program implementation. This roles offer a unique opportunity to contribute to diverse community initiatives, ensuring meaningful experiences for both volunteers and Waymakers alike.
